Welcome to Denver Writes

I stare out the window, the color of the few autumn leaves blending together with mass amounts of green leaves left from summer. The smell of fresh rain came through one of the open windows. I feel the bus pull up to a stop in front of a bench where a woman sat, her hair tied neatly  in a bun, who seemed to be staring at some form of file. I grab my bag and step out of the bus, before it quickly starts up again and swerves around a corner.

“Victor Pryor right,” I nod, as she looks up from her paper. “Well hurry up now, or we’re going to be late.”

“Late for what exactly?” I ask, trying to keep up with her pace, my leather bag hitting me repeatedly in the leg.

“Were you not informed?”

“Informed on what?”

“My goodness,” She groaned, still not slowing her pace. “There is a welcoming party for new and old students, as well as you have to get accustomed to your dorm and your roommate, you’ve got to unpack and so much more.”

“And where is the school, as it feels as though we’ve been walking for a long time, when are we going to get there?”

“Well, we are getting to my car right now, I’m parked not far away, then I’ll drive you the rest of the way to the school. It’s much too far to walk,” She said, sharply turning a corner before abruptly stopping.

“Here,” She unlocked her car and quickly got in. I follow, placing my stuff at the bottom of the car. “Here,” She repeats, handing me my school uniform. “The rest of it will be in your dorm.”

“Um ok,” I say, as she starts the car and begins the trek down the bumpy road. We sat in silence, her radio playing very faintly in the background. As the trees grew denser, I grew more and more confused about where we were going. She takes a sharp turn into a long dirt road, enhancing my confusion. “Where is the school?”

“It’s located in these woods.”

“Why?”

“No one knows,” She says. I looked over at her, disappointed with the response. However, the disappointment didn’t last for long, as we got to the clearing in the woods. Ellery Academy was a beautiful building. It was about the same height as the trees, only the bell tower towering over the forest. The school was mainly made out of gray and brown bricks, with many windows on each wall. It was split up into 4 different buildings. One looked to be the main area, where all the classes were located. The other was located off to the side, almost behind the other two. It had to be a greenhouse because of the glass exterior. The final two looked to be dorm halls as all the boys were shuffling in and out of the doors with their luggage.
